How do I use Appraise-It Pro in a terminal server environment?

A terminal server allows software to be run simultaneously by multiple users accessing the server remotely. This is one way to enable multiple Appraise-It Pro users to share reports and databases.

  • Windows Server uses Remote Desktop Services to allow users to log in remotely via the Remote Desktop Connection client application.

Once your server and client computers have been configured to allow remote access, you can take the following steps to configure Appraise-It Pro for use in a terminal server environment.

Logged into the server as the administrator

1. Download and run the latest Appraise-It Pro installer from www.sfrep.com/downloads.
2. Configure the folder on the server's shared drive where Appraise-It Pro will store its data.

a. The default location and name is %UserProfile%\Documents\My Appraise-It\Data. This will need to be relocated to a folder on a shared drive that all users can access, and can be named anything you like; for example, C:\AppraiseItProData.
b. Ensure all users have read/write permissions on the folder and its subfolders.
c. If you have data from an existing install of Appraise-It or Appraise-It Pro that users need access to, copy it into the folder.

3. Open Appraise-It Pro, then go to Settings and select Folders.
4. Ensure Data folder is set to the folder you configured in step 2.

5. Close Appraise-It Pro.
6. If you use or plan to use CompLink, disable Data Execution Prevention (DEP) for CompLink.

a. Open Control Panel, then open System, then select Advanced System Settings.
b. On the Advanced tab, in the Performance section, select Settings...

c. On the Data Execution Prevention tab, select Add...

d. Browse to and select MLS Importer.exe, then select Open.

• In Appraise-It Pro v2.8 and later, MLS Importer.exe is located in
  C:\Program Files\SFREP\Appraise-It Pro\Bin\x86\CompLink.
• In Appraise-It Pro v2.7 and earlier, MLS Importer.exe is located in
  C:\Program Files\SFREP\Appraise-It Pro\Bin\CompLink.

e. Select Okay, then select Okay, then close the System window.

Logged into the server as a user

1. Open Appraise-It Pro and register it.
2. Go to Settings and select Folders.
3. Ensure Data folder is set to the folder you configured in step 2 of the administrator instructions.
4. Close Appraise-It Pro.

Your user is now ready to use Appraise-It Pro via Remote Desktop Services.
