How do I create a password-protected PDF?

Some clients may require additional security when your report is sent as a PDF. Appraise-It's PDF printer includes the ability to password-protect your PDF reports.

1. Open your completed report in Appraise-It.
2. Go to FilePrint PDF or click the Print PDF icon on the toolbar.
3. In the Print dialog, click Printer Setup.
4. In the Select Printer dialog, click Setup.
5. In the PDF-XChange Properties dialog, click Security in the menu on the left.

6. Check the Use PDF Security box, then check the Password Required to Open Document box. Specify a password in the field below. Click OK twice to return to the Print dialog.
7. At this point, continue printing your PDF as you would normally.
8. Once the PDF is saved, verify your security by opening the PDF. Your PDF viewer software should prompt you for the password specified in step 6; enter it to view the PDF. If you are not prompted for a password, or you enter your password but the PDF does not display, repeat these steps to try again.

If your client did not specify the password you were to use when creating the PDF, make sure you provide the password you selected to them, otherwise they will be unable to view your report. If you are unsure what password to specify, contact your client.

In Appraise-It Pro:

1. Select Save PDF  under the Home tab in the ribbon at the top of the application.

2. On the right hand side of the Save PDF window under the Security section you can select 1 of or both of the check boxes.  One will password protect opening the PDF file at all and the other will prevent any editing of the PDF.  Check one or both of these check boxes according to your desired level of security.

Please make sure that it's a password you remember, these passwords are not something that our technical support staff will have access to.
